The Maine Bar Association held an art and writing competition for students in grades 9 to 12, with a deadline of April 1. For the national competition, the Senior Counsel Division receives submissions from each participating county or group of counties. From these trials, a winner and an overall winner are selected for each level. Winners will be recognized and receive a cheque for $500 and the overall winner will receive a cheque for $1,000. The corresponding plaques and medals will also be awarded. Homeschooled students are also encouraged to participate. The Polk County Bar Association offers an annual K-12 art, music and writing competition. The West Virginia State Bar held an essay contest. The deadline for submissions was April 1.

The theme of Law Day 2022 is «Towards a More Perfect Union: The Constitution in Times of Change». «We, the people of the United States, to form a more perfect union… » are the first words of the United States Constitution. With 4,400 words and signed in 1787, it is one of the shortest and oldest written constitutions in the world.
The Constitution is a dynamic document that not only outlines a blueprint for government, but also delegates power, articulates rights, and provides mechanisms for change. It is neither perfect nor exhaustive, as our nation`s history makes clear. Laws, court decisions, amendments, lawyers, and «we the people» have relied on these original words over generations to try to make the «more perfect union» more perfect. These efforts continue today as contemporary leaders and ordinary citizens raise their voices as loud as ever to deliver on the promise of the Constitution and create a more perfect union. In 2021, the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation celebrated Law Day by sharing virtual activities and lesson plans, and sponsoring art, essay, and video competitions for middle and high school students. The activities and competitions were based on the American Bar Association`s 2021 Law Day theme «Advancing the Rule of Law Now.» In recent years, the Spartanburg County Bar Association, led by Justice Mark Hayes, has sponsored an essay contest on constitutional issues. More than 1,000 students in grades 9 to 12 at public schools in Spartanburg, Union and Cherokee counties participated.
Teachers in each school select the best essays from each class. The winning essays were then submitted to the Spartanburg County Bar Association, which in turn selected the best essay in each class and the best overall essay. The Baltimore Bar Association offers an art contest for K-8 students and an art and essay contest for high school students. The deadline for submission was April 4. Judges and lawyers will present prizes to the first, second and third place winners of this year`s poster and essay competitions. The theme for Law Day 2022, set by the American Bar Association, is «Towards a More Perfect Union: The Constitution in Times of Change.» The North Carolina Bar Association and its Young Lawyers Division offered a poster contest for students in grades 3 to 5, an essay contest for students in grades 6 to 12, a leadership challenge for McIntyre youth, and a regional moot court competition. Their Law Day ceremony took place on May 6. The San Diego County Bar Association held a writing and poster contest for K-12 students. The deadline for submission was April 15. All winners of the inaugural poster and video contest will be honoured at the annual Law Week luncheon on May 20. The student who wrote essays for the annual Law Day celebration, sponsored by the Macomb County Bar Foundation, will be honored Friday at a ceremony in the jury room on the first floor of Mount Clemens District Court.
The Baton Rouge Bar Foundation`s Law Day program features art and writing competitions for students, as well as virtual events. The Guam Bar Association sponsored a painting competition (K-2), an art competition (3-5) and an essay competition (middle and high school). The Guam Law Week Facebook page also posts updates on other events. These events typically include mock virtual trials with elementary schools and the Guam Girl Scouts Democracy Badge virtual conference. Guam also hosted physical activities during Law Month, including Race Judicata (virtual 5 km), Jump for Justice and special Olympics – Haggan. The Dallas Bar Association held an art, essay and poster competition. The deadline for submissions was March 23. The Texas State Bar usually runs a contest of essays, photos, and posters. The registration deadline was March 30 of this year. Winners will be rewarded at a Law Day celebration. The State Bar also provides a list of educational resources for students of all levels.
The Connecticut Supreme Court Historical Society held an art and essay contest for high school students. As our nation grew, women began to fight for equal rights. The flexibility of the constitution has made changes possible. In 1920, women gained the right to vote in the United States through the 19th Amendment. After decades of struggle, the women`s suffrage movement has finally won women`s right to vote and gained a say in the future of our nation. The suffragettes used their First Amendment rights to protest and defend their right to vote. Members of Congress were able to use the flexibility of the Constitution to add the 19th Amendment and give women the right to vote.
