The Legal Aid Line is the easiest way to seek legal assistance from the Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati, the Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio, LLC, and the Volunteer Lawyers Project. You do not need to come to our offices to seek legal assistance. We provide free and comprehensive civil law support to overcome a wide range of major social and legal barriers. For example, we help prevent homelessness, break free from family violence, provide access to health and income services, and overcome barriers to employment. Note: If you are 60 years of age or older, the Pro Seniors Legal Helpline can provide you with free legal information, advice and recommendations. There are no income cheques for this service. Topics typically covered include «Medicare, Medicaid and Medicaid estate recovery, living wills, enduring powers of attorney for health care, and consumer matters.» A greeter will tell you your basic information and a hotline lawyer will call you back. If your problem cannot be resolved over the phone, you will be directed to an appropriate provider. Pro Seniors also has attorneys in Cincinnati who can help with issues such as «Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, other government benefits, and protective services.» Here are some legal information brochures that Pro Seniors has developed that could be useful to you or your loved ones. Note: Through the Lawyer Referral Service (LRS), the Cincinnati Bar Association offers two programs designed to help low-income individuals. The first, the Modest Means program, is designed to «fill the void for individuals who do not qualify for indigent legal aid, pro bono programs, or other free/low-cost legal services [and] those who cannot afford to pay the current market price for attorneys` fees.» Call 513-699-4025 to see if you qualify. In addition, the Attorneys for the Marginally Indigent programme is designed to assist defendants who do not qualify for representation by the Public Defender`s Office but cannot afford to pay for a private defence lawyer. Our approach is two-pronged: helping individuals solve problems on a case-by-case basis and using legal advocacy to improve systems, often by forming collaborative service and advocacy projects with other social service organizations.

Note: Another good place to start if you`re looking for free or low-cost legal help in Cincinnati is the United Way 2-1-1 helpline, which can connect you with nonprofit service providers. You can also consult your searchable database directly. It should be noted that in many legal aid applications, referrals appear to be made primarily to the Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati. However, depending on your specific situation and needs, 2-1-1 can provide you with additional resources.
