Each year, we honour lawyers, law firms, students, organizations and members of the judiciary who have provided, enhanced and honoured pro bono legal services. These services are essential to the growing number of people in our region. The Center for Pro Bono is a major project of the committee and its implementing body. The centre provides technical assistance and planning advice to a wide range of constituents in the field, including bar associations, pro bono programs, legal aid societies, chief counsel, law schools, business consultants, judges and prosecutors. Building a stronger pro bono culture in the state of Louisiana sets the stage for 2022 as a year of collaboration, community, and access to justice. The Pro Bono Project is pleased to join the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Access to Justice Commission and the Chief Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court in the «20 in 2022» campaign. Our goal is to recruit lawyers for 20 hours pro bono per year. With the support of the local Bar and Judiciary Association, we are recruiting young and experienced practitioners to support access to justice for Louisians who need basic legal assistance.

The Center for Pro Bono offers a variety of resources to ensure the success of your pro bono program. Please note that the challenge is copyrighted by the Pro Bono Institute. Compared to other ambitious pro bono standards, such as ethics rules and the goals of state and local bars, the challenge is unique in several ways: The Shreveport Bar Foundation also runs the Pro Bono Project (PBP) in Caddo and Bossier parishes (f/k/a Northwest Louisiana Pro Bono Project). The pro bono project provides free legal assistance through volunteer civil lawyers to skilled poor and low-income residents of Caddo and Bosssier parish. Private lawyers volunteer through the pro bono project to handle cases of individual clients who qualify under federal poverty income guidelines. Hundreds of people with serious legal problems affecting their health, safety, housing or income are supported each year by pro bono lawyers.

Our work is more important today than ever before in our thirty-four-year history.
